After reading the article where Judith Williamson dissects the image of and Apple advert, I was quite surprised at the level of detail firstly she went into and secondly the amount of which was present in a seemingly simple shot. Below is a screengrab of the image for artistic reference only.

It is both interesting and surprising to dissect an image albeit an advert in such a comprehensive way. I was struck but the cultural reflections and relationship with both the image itself and the wording. I have to say in my ignorance I had never really come across the toil of the workers that Apple inflicts on other countries where they choose to farm out the manufacture of their numerous products. This image carries much weight in terms of marketing potential and its underlying themes and contradictions. As I continue my personal development as a photographer, I find myself continually contextualising my images and that which I come across on social platforms and other forms of media. It is true that I will never look at a photograph in the same way, I have a renewed passion and interest in the ambiguity of photography and art. But after reading this article I am certain that this level of dissection will now run much deeper. For me it is the clear and concise way that Williamson writes the article, without pretence and complicated wording that make this so easy to understand. To my mind her findings cannot be argued and the myths and murky nature of the advertising world are hung, drawn and quartered. A compelling read which informs and inspires in equal measure.
