Assignment 1- Feedback reflection

For assessment purposes I have reflected on my own reflection of feedback on the first assignment, and it is interesting to look back on my thoughts after completion the following assignments and ultimately this course. It is clear to see that my thoughts were concerned with challenging myself inwardly and outwardly, exploring challenging themes and taking myself out of any preconceived comfort zone. I do believe that I have largely done this, and furthermore feel this is a very important and poignant step forward in my development as a photographic artist.

Reflection

Had a great chat with my tutor over Skype and I am happy with the outcome of the assignment. A good review of my work was covered and I was enthused to hear my research and development of new ideas were reasonable. Due to lockdown I made alterations to my workflow and this was deemed acceptable given the current circumstances. My context behind the work was picked up and that for me is perhaps the most pleasing part to hear. Although I love the ambiguous nature of photography, mostly we all want people to “get” our work and that is perhaps most satisfying. I feel that my work is starting to flow nicely creatively and have a new found outlook upon both my studies and photography. I want to take more risks and remove myself from any form of comfort zone, this of course has to be allied with a level of technical execution. I have now started to use the blog more freely, not only a body of work, but as an opportunity to display my own sets of work outside the course structure. This is something that has filled me with great excitement as I really hone in on what makes me tick as a photographer.

During the call there was a good level of discussion about anything that I had problems with, for example photoshop, and my tutor has given some superb resources to follow up. This information also came with further Japanese photographers to explore and a some other webpages to further digest the work of contemporary photographers.

Lastly we discussed the next assignment and I have a few ideas which my tutor agreed with and gave suggestions on how I could move them forward. I was happy with the areas of strength that were mentioned, and this only serves to fuel the fire within and achieve the level that I want to be. One area of development was engaging with OCA peers and this is something I am aware of. I do try to make any meet-ups for the course and make a point of trying to read any emails regarding assessing others work for assignment feedback. I have asked my tutor how best to explore this and hope to hear back with some ideas shortly. I have found the discussion forum a little confusing and perhaps I’m not the most socially literate student. This is something I need to address moving forward.
